Cloves are the aromatic buds of the tree Syzygium aromaticum, which is native to the Indonesia islands. They have been used for centuries as a food preservative and for their many medicinal purposes. Clove bud essential oil is popular for aromatherapy. It can be applied to the skin by using a carrier oil like coconut, tamanu, jojoba, or argan oil, just to name a few.

Another great use for clove bud essential oil is for topical pain alleviation. Dating back as far as the thirteenth century, clove bud oil has been used for tooth pain; the compound responsible being eugenol. Using small amounts with a carrier oil for tooth pain has been shown to be an effective treatment option.
